Re: Exterior Wood Stain Anyone

Question:

I need to stain a cedar deck.

What kind of prep, what product, and what appliction do you prefer? Brush or spray?

I use the products I sell (to homeonwers). Most wood resto contractors use a two step process for prep. We use an Osborne brush to defelt if neccessary.

We spray and back brush semi transparent penetrating oil onto decks.

And now for something serious...

Does anybody use Sikkens stain? I've been using their SRD (siding roof deck -catchy huh?) and I think it's pretty killer. I don't know of anything that is tougher.

The Wood Defender fence and deck stains work really well for all types of applications, old or new.

I have contractors calling me asking about problems they have with WD on fences they have stained with in 6 months. I know the product i was sent a sample and it doesn't stand up against the Baker's Gray Away's quality of oil and color tone.I was even told that the WD was trying to reproduce the BGA Cedar Dark color to compete with our most popular color.

SW has a pretty good deck line up right now, and they seem to work fine.

Question:

Why is Behr exterior house and porch stain so bad? It doesn't have good hide or longevity. Why to homeowners all think that it is good? Why does consumer reports always give it high marks?

I just had time to look at the site for the krylon. I thought they were talking about an actual stain that comes in gallons and 5's/ You will never get contractors on board by offering rhem spray cans to apply stain...
