Cinder/Cement block?

What sort of prep work is involved here?

1950's home...with about 5 courses of block above grade(exterior side)....these were probably painted "Battleship Grey" a few times by the previous owner.

Power wash the area?
Sand blast it?
Wire wheel/brush it?
Chemicals?

The area in question is about 150'x 4'.

I'd then want to paint the area...
The color scheme would have to be in conjunction with the siding Favorite colors?

This whole exterior "project" should be starting in Mid-March.

1950's? I'd guess you got some lead paint on there my friend.

You got room to just apply a mesh and stucco finish over it without disturbing it?

Somehow I want to get Orange back in here, but it's not applying just yet...

Probably lead based.

Right "now"...no.
After the siding is up...maybe?
1/2" of foam ins., + siding equals...an inch?

Is that enough for mesh and a skim coat?

Orange is something you eat...not wear or apply

If the wall is smooth (flat, not out of plumb...you get the idea) an inch will work, little tight, but it works

Or

Consider an EIFS system without the EI and just the FS, The finish system, I don't know if it will bond to the paint though, hopefully someone on here knows more about than I, but the finish product is less than 3/8" provided the wall is flat, smooth, etc.
Trowel on a base coat, embed the fibermesh, trowel on a second coat...next day primer coat, then finish coat...you can do the finish in Orange just to make me happy...I may even visit to see it in person

The base coat sticks like crazy...it's full of polymer's, the stuff will stick to glass, so I would assume it would stick to the paint...provided the paint is solid on the wall...not flaking or loose/hollow sound when tapping the wall, etc. This is the stuff we use to parge ICF blocks from just below grade to where the finish wall begins.

Thanks Chris.

I still have some time before this portion happens, so I have time to see what will work.

EIFS could work, but i would use a grinder and cut tracks into wall
