aluminum light poles

What's the best way to paint a cast aluminum light pole. Some areas are bare. I have looked on the net and what few answers I've found all disagree. First off my customer wants them sanded bare, primed and painted. I've heard Steel Master is good. Any help would be appreciated. Need to submit bid soon!

Wash them to ensure adhesion. Use DTM Wash Primer from Sherwin-Williams and top coat with DTM. dont use surfactants (thinners) it will cause the primer to separate like you are painting silicone.

If you want a more durable top coat use Aro-Jet single component, think its a urethane (they may have changed the name a few years back) call your IM Rep. don’t ask the SW guys in the store, they don’t know.

I agree with NAV. I've used DTM numerous times and with the primer, you can't beat it. As far as taking the existing coating off, it depends on what is on there and how tall or big this pole is.
