Volclay Waterstop

Churlish inspector has insisted that the "cold joint" between the 8 in poured concrete wall and the engineered slab on grade be waterproofed.?? Engineer says this is unnecesary but has recommended a 2in strip of Volclay waterstop tied to the upright rebar prior to pouring wall. Volclay is a bentonite clay product that swells when wet to many times its original volume. It comes in panels and also in tubes that can be placed where needed and I am leaning toward the tube form. Has anyone ever used these products? Is there a better way to seal this joint?

Works great, I have never tied it to the rebar, usually it is glued down to the concrete. Sometimes it is shot down with a powder actuated gun

Deneef has a lot of good products that was always specified on the project I have done. It can get expensive though, checkout Swellseal on their website.
