Quote from Green Builder Magazine

I find it ironic when publications with audiences who use math all day long every day make statements such as the following:

"A 1/8" gap below an exterior door is equivalent to a 4" hole in your wall."
-Green Builder May 2008

I had a "builder" want a discount today on a small amount of Cultured Stone because he was a "green builder". I told him that a green builder would be using real, locally quarried stone and cementious stucco instead of fake stone and synthetic stucco. And tacked on 10% just because.

Hmmm,
36"÷8=4˝ sq in.
Sounds kinda like a
4" hole to me as well?
Maybe just too much math today.

I get a round hole about 2.4" in diameter.

36"x.125"=4.5SqIn
3.1416x1.2"x1.2"=4.52SqIn

(A 4" square hole is 16SqIn)

Math or semantics?
4 inch hole, or 4 square inch hole?
Or 4 inch diameter hole?
Who knows what he meant to say.
I'd fault his english before his math.

Real "Greenies" are ALARMISTS and therefore EXAGGERATE with the intent of instilling fear. As was done in the publication sited above.

Most people are just green because they think it means the job will be cheaper. Which as we all know is the opposite. What i find ironic is who is setting the standards for what is green and what isnt. Is a green building today going to be evil and wasteful in 2 yrs 5yrs 20yrs from now. why in the future will the planet need even more protection than it does now.

(of course the answer is the planet needs to be rid of all humans to be truly free).

Holy crap!, I just realized I've got a 4" hole in my building, a 1/8" gap around each of the two silcocks and a 1/4" gap under the door, what the hell is that equivalent to?

Depends, you want a round hole?
Square?
Ovate?
Perhaps octagonal?
What does a hole look like?
