Plantation Grown Pine

I am currently remodeling a home that is to be rated by the local Green Building Program. When purchasing the lumber package, I asked the salesman about FSC studs. He said all the Pine they carry is grown on plantations, not clear cut from virgin forests, so it IS 'green'.
Anybody know where I can find proof/documentation of this. I will need something to show the Green Building Program folks.

I don't know exactly what FSC standards are, but you could look them up and find out what they say. The salesman may be on the money, and they are not interested in getting ' certification' but may be operating within FSC guidelines. Or he may not know at all.

The first time I asked our lumber co about it, they said 'what?'

Re: Plantation Grown Pine

We would be interested to know more about this d rez. I am afraid that the "green" ratings applied to lumber products are questionable, at best. I don't think it is possible to boil down complicated forest land management issues into a simple ratings system. The green ratings applied to internationally traded lumber are created as a result of a political decision by well meaning people on the policies of a particular company. You will likely hear from some of us about this in some rather frank language. Your saleman's suggestion that plantation grown pine must be green is simplistic, the kindest word. There are a number of soil, water, air, species, and operational issues that must be considered if that company's products can be considered green. As mentioned by a previous poster check out where your materials come from and talk to the producer. Is it BS or salespitch. Use your own judgement.
