ASHRAE did a study on vapor / moisture barriers. Bottom line is, don't use one on the interior. It prevents wall assemblies from drying out if they get wet. Codes still require barriers but most of the code officials around me don't know that. If I have to put one on I pop a lot of holes in it or rip it out after the inspection.
