Wow, now I am happy to see someone other then me that is obsessed with details on prints. Usually when I hand a set of my prints to a sub that is bidding them, they love the detail, its good to not be alone. I have seen some horrible prints from time to time.

Nice work!

Re: Starting The Slate Floor Monday

...kinda like putting "Lego" together...
Couldn't help but noticing...

I'm guessing there was a change order issued with regards to not cutting in the front left corner of the hearth from a single 24 x 18 ("C" stone),
as indicated on the plan? Leveling issue perhaps...?
I ask only because experience has taught me that when "someone" (i.e.: a designer) issues a layout such as this, it's not a good idea to make
any "field" changes to the layout, prior to having that same "someone" sign off on them...

I learnt this lesson in 12mm Grade IV porcelain (laid out in a similar pattern to the one you're doing) ...and it was a costly one...and it involved a
change made on a cut around an outside 90, where there was a "leveling issue"...
All the explainations in the world couldn't/wouldn't change her mind; Out comes "Mr. Sledgehammer".
Given that this was on a comercial job (concrete slab), I should have just taken the Makita to the floor in the first place...
...and stuck with her layout..."but it's only one corner, who'll even notice..."
...hindsight is 20/20...
A valuable lesson learned...?
Cover Yer A$$,

Cheers, Ron

Re: Starting The Slate Floor Monday

The "C" stone there was eliminated and the surrounding stones were enlarged so we didn't end up with a little strip of stone there.
The owner trusts my work way more than the architects. After the print was drawn, I t was given to me to correct.

The stones were fabricated to my dimensions not the architects.

That says it all right there...well that, and "the H.O. trusts my work way more than the architect's"...

For many years now, I've done all my own layouts, submitted for the customer's approval...

Because I work exclusively within a "word of mouth" client base, most customers just pick out their tile/stone and say "come up with something, Ron...";
it keeps the mind agile...

Cheers, Ron

Re: Starting The Slate Floor Monday

Home owner supplied the slate. Think it was around $15,000.

Nice work - so was your XMas present to yourself, finishing it so that you didn't have to think about that floor anymore?
