Starting The Mantle Install

Stone was dropped yesterday. Today we hauled some of the 1st pieces in and started dry fitting. $28,000 and we have to start by trimming stone. WTF!?!?!

Wow. That looks like fun!!
Is the stone inside the same as the landscape wall outside?

No, inside is South Bay Quartzite. Outside is local bolder run through a Hydro-split.

So this mantle costs as much as pretty nice car...here's what I'm dealing with right off the bat.

Supposed to be finished inside corners of the hearth

Where was the stone fabricated??? (China maybe??) The difference in thickness is a bit extreme.

I love it when things come all fed up. It gives us the opportunity to show how good we are at what we do.....well, maybe "love" isn't quite the word I'm looking for.

So far I've been able to hide the fabricators screw ups.

Well, having lots of experience on both sides, I've learned that that is the stone setters job. I hop you don't run into to much of that stock thickness inconsistency with the vertical pieces-- thats a real pain to deal with.
