The sad part is that these are within 100 yards of the current production facilities and Headquarters and they are letting them go back to the jungle. I am going to get on their ass Monday.

It's really neat to see old structural stonework. When I first scrolled through the pictures it looked like the kiln vaults were built of limestone. ??? I was greatly relieved to see the firebrick. Next time I'm down at the granite quarries, I'll get some pictures of some of their old buildings, built from necessity and free materials.

What did they use for fuel back in the day? Was it wood or coal. I would imagine there was a good supply of limestone AND fuel to make it profitable.

There are literally 100's of old lime kilns in the woods around my area. Some are pretty well taken care of, and some are pretty grown up and falling down.

Tscar-I live outside of San Marcos on Lime Kiln Rd. There still are old lime kilns and the quarry right off the road. I think it's pretty cool and always point it out to visitors, although no one seems to care.....
