I see you are in Ontario. How far are you from Rockport? I know Ontario is BIG, 2 people came from up north, not too far north, and it was an 8 hr. drive for them.
If you're in the area, it's worth a stop by.
Karl,
That is some stunning work, certainly worth the drive to take part. Did you lead, was there an "Expert" telling everyone yay or nay? It's awesome that you travel all over to take part, kudos to you!!!
I just went as a casual tourist. I have the opportunity to take on as much or as little responsibility as I want. On this trip I was just skilled labor. The core group put in 8-9 hrs. a day. I probably worked about 6 hrs. a day. There were a number of smaller projects going on throughout the property so I would bounce around between them also. The bridge was my main reason for going up though.
Hoping to head back to Ventura this Jan. for another Stone Foundation project.
This was built with floods in mind. The day they looked at the site was just after 2 weeks of rain. I guess the water was rushing 3 ft deep at that point.
We built this to stand up to that. We imagine the whole structure becoming a waterfall if necessary. It can take it. So add another zero to your warranty.
That would be our head honcho, John Shaw-Rimmington. Head of the Dry Stone Wall Association of Canada. This whole thing was his baby. I thank him for the invite to be part of this.
OK, let's all chill. Yes, learning is a part of this site but so can some tough comments. Egos aside, let's stay away from personal attacks. I refuse to close such an impressive thread but if things start getting out of hand, I'll just delete comments.
Gothic and roman arches you can easily see how they would work... Arches like that with such a large radius always amaze me how they can carry all that load without failing...
