That is an unusual treatment, laying them as pavers. As an FYI, although no laymen will notice it, it looks better if you don't use those little closers. 4" is the minimum per the BIA, but in reality for the time it takes to make 2 cuts, you can make them invisible, simply by cutting 2 bricks down 1-2" each.
