Wow, very cool. I grew up working for my family. All of them New England stone and brick guys. Grandpa would have given you the nod for that job!

cj, that is beautiful, one question, where the ridge hits the backside of the chimney, the flashing line continues around the front side of chimney, what is the purpose of that coarse, what is it? G

Through flashed. There is a LCC pan across the whole chimney and runs up the flue and back down into it a couple inches.
I ALWAYS through flash stone chimneys, usually not brick, but this guy wants the whole nine yards. So, it's his money and it makes him happy.

Very nice work. I'm curious about the flashing as well...

How are the winters in ct? I know that cap would never hold up here in Indy.

I know it's not your work, but what do you suppose is the function of the 2' of tin roofing, then asphalt shingles? I've never seen a roof done that way. Looks kinda cool, in a weird sorta way.

I was wondering that to.

Great work. Very impressive. Also that is one good looking house. I like the siding. I like the fat corner trim great detail there. I also like the fat bottom trim. Is that vinyl on that house or lap siding .The guy spent some serious money on the exterior. Once again great brick work. Keeping with the character of the house.

Ahhhhh, don't say "tin roof" around this job. That's all custom designed, one of a kind copper roof. That's an integrated gutter system. If you look close you can see a small vetical of copper about 3/4 down. That forces the water into a channel and then into leaders.

Pretty heavy freeze/thaw cycle. That cap ain't go'in nowhere. There's pics on here some where of how I built the twin to this cap last spring.

Ahhhh! and don't say "vinyl" either around here.
...and yes he spends more on trim and detail then any other job I have ever been involved in.
One of the carpenters is on this forum, maybe he'll chime in with more about the detail work.

Golly gosh

That is a fantastic job. How about trying to get it into some kind of house build magazine?
As for the through flashing as far as I'm concerned that is the only way to go.

I'm jealous

I can't take all the credit.
John, my #1 man.
The owner, willing to spend the $$ to do such a sweet chimney.
The artichoke...well, he drew a pretty picture, that's about it.
I had to figure out how to build it.
