concrete step, historic reproduction

Just got this interesting job, main house built 1908, beautiful concrete steps leading to second floor. custom conservatory built approx 39'' below main floor living room. my job is to build a set of steps 6' wide to match existing staircase. here are a few shots of the existing stairs. and the location of the new set. the biggest challenge will be matching the existing concrete in texture and color.

IT looks to me like the treads were not PIP.

I know restoration masons dissolve old mortar in acid to see what the color and texture of the sand and such was. Does that work for concrete?

It shouldn't matter with concrete, as the finish is the paste, not the aggregate.

I opened a new browser window and took a screen shot. I would just use your computers photo program, insert both pix into a word doc and print it. I use a mac so not sure on a pc. i am sure there are several other ways.

You are welcome. Hard to say, existing steps are so dusty. I enjoy seeing your work, can't wait to see the finished product!

Looks like quite the project! Are you concerned about the holes in the treads you poured? What kind of vibration time did you use? You poured them in a one piece mold, with the bottom of the tread being what you see when your mold is full?

And matching colors, how long since the treads were poured? The one on the left looks a little green still on my screen.

a slurry mix will address the holes, we vibrate about 7 minutes, the color will evolve as it dries, as we slurry, and most significantly as we grind.
