What's Wrong With My Shower?

I noticed yesterday that the hot water in our shower is wonky...kept acting like we were out of hot water...cooled off drastically intermittently. Was about 11pm no laundry going, no reason to be short on hot water. Any ideas?

If it is a single handle mixer--the cartridge is failing, most likely.

Newer units have 'anti-scald' AND pressure balancing features---they get fussy sometimes and need to be replaced.

What brand have you got?

My wife is disabled and uses a different shower than me. She has been complaining about this same problem for a while and I thought she was nuts. My bad....

Re: What's Wrong With My Shower?

Two handle units (desperate hot and cold) will not have pressure balancing or anti-scald features---Sorry, you have an issue somewhere else---

Ok, didn't do it yesterday. Maybe someone was running water somewhere and we didn't know it.

Any other reason you can think of for this to happen?

You have any hydronic heating that could be drawing hot water?

How old is your water heater?

My shower Wednesday was as you described but was fine the rest of the week. Two handle shower system also.

Just that shower? Remove the hot stem and check the seat washer and retaining screw. Maybe it's loose and/or needs replacement. (Also make sure the hot supply stop valve is fully open, if you have one.)
