Ron,

I checked out his past post slightly and he may be over his head with whatever question this is, but I do feel he is a contractor.

Please use the Report Post button if you would like one of us to consider the validity of the concern.

Re: Well Install

I think that place in Kansas which blew away (Greensboro?) had the largest hand dug well in America. However, I suspect they used shovels. You may want to visit there for some pointers.

Talk to your neighbors with wells for more information including depth, how they did theirs, etc.

Is there a water witch around? If so, find him.

You can call a well digger and see about their rates, but if they don't witch, you may want to find a place for them to dig beforehand. Any idiot can find water down by a creek or in a ravine, but you need a witch to find good water.

This ain't a well drillers forum so you may not get much in the way of useful advice.

But what is it exactly that you want to know?

Re: Well Install

You will probably need to contact an EXPERIANCED well driller in YOUR area to find out how deep and what size well you need to go to get the flow you need (gallons per minute) for the sprinkler. Just because you can hit water at 20 to 30 feet doesn't mean you will get enough flow to maintain a sprinkler, unless you plan to s-l-o-w-l-y pump it into a large holding tank to be used by the sprinkler when it gets full.

Would you recommend schl 40 or galvinzed. I have seen 10' sections of pvc w/ slots cut in it and a open end. What kind of point would I put on it. I have a pump we use for washing bulkheads and piers down with, that I could wash it down with. As far as the metal pipe I have heard the old timers talking about driving them down. Or do you know where I might find some info on different techniques.

Greensburg cleve... you're right about the well though..

Depends on your water table. My father and I dug a 30' irrigation well 60 miles from here, it's 200' here.

We augured about 15-20' till we hit sand. Drop the casing in, put a collar weight on top, then bail the sand and watch the casing drop...

That's a pretty deep subject for a shallow mind
