Waterline Tapping Has anyone ever tapped an 8" steel waterline for a branch run?

steel? this inside of a building, or buried outside? you're not talking about cast iron, ductile iron pipe, are you? i would think your supplier should be able to get you a tapping saddle/corporation valve for that pipe if it's IPS sized. you will have to borrow/rent/buy the tapping tool. it's not difficult at all

This is for a fire sprinkler system and it is in the ceiling. Thanks for the info.

What size branch do you have to install? If you can shut it down and drain it you could hole saw it and use a saddle style tap.
