Walmarts Got Some Great Prices On Plumbing Supplies

I was in my local Walmart the other day and I decided to check out the Plumbing Isle,

They have some great Plumbing Parts ( Good Name Brands ) and for some great prices as well.

It could be that wally world was closer than the supply house and the guy was trying to save time.

Is a Fluidmaster fill valve from a plumbing supply house any better than the same fill valve from wally world?

Yes. Look into how walmart operates. They are well known for having their vendors produce inferior lines of products to keep prices down.

I am sure they are the same ones the home centers like blowes and ho depot sell.

The way I understand it is they negotiate a lower price contract with the manufacturer based on volume purchases for set time periods. Similar to how the government works with private supply companies. This allows them to sell said products for slightly less or the same as other outlets. The also like HD, Lowes, Petsmart, etc. will come into an area and sell items at or below cost for awhile to try and drive out or shut down smaller local suppliers.

I don't believe a large product maufactures like fluidmaster, sony, dell, mobil one, etc. are going to risk damaging their reputations by producing inferior products just to ba able to sell them at Walmart. It just doesn't make sense to operate that way.

I doubt that, there is some regulation
involved there.
If however A manufacturer has more than
one plant, more than one production line
capable of producing similar products
they will and they do.
Sometimes the volume that Wally or
the Despot offers is tempting enough
to simply lower the quality across the board.

I assume you are referring to something along the lines of or similar to Craftsman vs. Craftsman by Sears. If so then I am in agreement with your point.

Oh boy! You're in for a real shocker.

If you spend 15 minutes using that new fangled thing called google or youtube and I think you're in for a huge eye-openner on Walmart and how they work and how other companies have discovered they've basically signed a contract with the devil as soon as they start dealing with Walmart.

In the manufacturing world Walmart as looked at as a turning point of more like a point of no return for a company if you make a deal with them. If you want to have access to the huge selling power of Walmart for your product, you can get it, but at what price? Walmart is known as pure evil to some of these companies. Even before the first year of the contract is even up Walmart's buying dept begins turning the screws, wanting more price concessions, wanting to renegotiate.. just lose the free batteries you package with it so you can sell it to us cheaper or better yet, switch them with cheap chinese ones... hey, now we aren't telling you how to run your business... but you know those millions of dollars in loans you now have that you had to take out to ramp up your manufacturing to meet our minimum order requirements.... how are you going to make those payments now if suddenly we decide to go to your competitor for this product instead of you???? Now lets see about selling this next batch to us 15% less then the last one....we can put you in touch with people who can help you engineer some of your costs out of your product...

I wouldn't believe everything you read on the internet. What you are describing is called blackmail and is illegal. I doubt they would get away with doing that for very long if indeed they are doing it. I may be wrong but I doubt very seriously companies as large as the ones I mentioned are not capable of finding their way into court and suing for damages and breach of contract. I can see where they may be able to bully smaller companies and manufactures that don't feel they could win a long drawn out court battle.

Don't get me wrong I am not trying to defend Walmart. I just don't think they have the power over other companies some people seem to think they have. If they where as bad as you say surely companies would find another retail outlet to sell to like maybe Target, Best Buy, Auto Zone, Peebles, Sears, Costco, etc and not bother with Walmart at all. Just saying.

What ends up on the Internet started as articles in Forbes, Time, Business Week, Fast Company etc....I realize this may be shocking to you but for many of us this is old news.

As for why do companies get in bed with Walmart instead of others?

Because of greed. Walmart as a company is bigger then all the rest of those companies combined.

Walmart is the largest company in the world.

They hold a lot of world records. Like company with largest number of lawsuits by it's own employees.. and lots of good stuff like that.

Like I said, no need to argue with me about it, go out and find out for yourself. Walmart's corporate history is not hidden, it's available for anybody who wants to find it.

to please their Wallyworld masters.
They pretty much gutted the town of Wooster, Ohio.

This stuff isn't internet conspiracy theory,

I hate to say it but you are wrong. This company has gotten away with much illegal. They do have the Power & use it to intimidate smaller companies. They have everyone by the @#%'s. They bully everyone including their workers. Check their record !

Well the problem is it's supply and demand. If people didn't keep shopping there because of their cheap prices then they wouldn't be so powerful. The company's who supply them are as much to blame as wal-mart their self. Like some people have said. As soon as wal-mart wants to sell their product they are gonna make big money. I have also heard that wal-mart wont sell a product unless they make 70%+ profit on the item. Thats some crazy profit. I very rarely shop in wal-mart but when i do the stuff is cheap.
