Vents And Location

Do vents have to go right above the drain? Or can they be relocated a foot or so off of the drain?

I have a the drain come from the ground and then go into a san. tee then the vent. I want to take the vent from the san. tee then direct it about a foot off to the side of the top of the san. tee.

Re: Vents And Location

Looking in my book it is the "edge of the fixture in which the water drains"

So does that mean I can't use a 1/4 bend underneath the sink? (this is a kitchen sink drain.

You have three feet from where the fixture trap ties into the branch line to have your vent connection. But any offsets below the flood level rim of the sink have to be less than 1/4 bends as the other poster mentioned.

My state allows up to 5' for a 1-1/2" traps vent, Pyro, you should have a chart in your code book.
You should have a code book for your course, if not...GET ONE!

Beyond 5 feet at a 1/4" per foot the trap is wet vented. Chicago code allows five feet max, no matter the pipe size.

Re: Vents And Location

Ours is simple.
Diameter X 2 + 2 = the linear max in feet the vent can be connected.
1-1/2" is 5, 2 is 6, 3 is 8...etc.
Wet vents are stricktly 2" run from the lav drain and connected within the required distance for the other 2 bath fixtures.
UPC has a chart that allows much less distance than my state does.
