Venting A Toilet
So Ive gutted my 2nd fl bathroom in a side by side duplex. We removed the toilet drain today, up to the stack (cast iron). There was also a vent connected that was totally clogged with crap..Anyways.. my plumber told me that we didn't nee to hook up the vent b/c the toilet was only 2 feet from the main stack. He said we would hook up the vent if we were 6 feet or futrher.. What do you think of that? IWill I have problems down the road if I listen to him??

Re: Venting A Toilet
He's right. The toilet is well within distance of the stack providing the stack does indeed have a stack vent. Ask the ho if they have had any recent venting problems with the toilet. I'm sure they haven't but if they say no it will confirm the fact that the old existing vent that was plugged wasn't doing anything anyway. The toilet was using the stack vent already.
