Urinal Flush Lever

Hey guys ,Hopeing you can help,,,here's the problem.
I had a plumber install a urinal at a comerical building I'm working at.
The flush handle he put in was one that you turn and hold. You have to hold it for about 5 seconds or more,REAL PITA.
Dosent flush that good either and makes a banging sound when you turn handle. It seems to rinse the bowl instead of flushing it.
He said you cant put a lever handle in because you need a 1" supply line.
I spoke to another plumber and he said thats not true.

Does this sound right?Or is he full of it?
I forget what kind of urinal it is but will find out today.
Anyone with any input.
Thanks for any help

Re: Urinal Flush Lever

The water pressure may be to high or low for that particular valve.

Request a spec. sheet for the fixtures he installed. That will give

a better guideline on what is required.

Re: Urinal Flush Lever

The min. required line for a urinal flushometer is 3/4" so yes he is full of it , and far as it rinsing the urinal it sounds like he may have the stop turned down to much or there may be trash in the valve or a bad diapram and the banging sound sounds like water hammer or the lines aren't strap down . Good luck !!

Re: Urinal Flush Lever

Are there other flushometers in the building? The type that you just pull the lever and the thing goes "swoosh" and flushes?

If not, then pressure may be an issue. Cost might also have been an issue. Those Central Brass self-closing valves are not that expensive. Flushometers can run $70-175 depending on the style.

Flushometers do require a lot of water in a short period of time to work properly. This might have been the problem, not enough water to the restroom to run a flushometer.

Re: Urinal Flush Lever

No other flushometers.

He figured $2500 for 2 guys 2 days to install urinal where sink was ,new toilet ,and a utility sink.
Job took 6 hrs so I dont think cost should have been an issue
