Too Much Pressure
I have just installed a whole house pump rated at 2.2 bar.
Its for a friends house with one ensuite shower and main bathroom shower. I didn't want to run an individual feeds from the hot and cold tanks to supply them so I thought it would be easier to pump the house house. The problem is its too powerful, so the hot water tank gets empty in 3 showers. Any ideas to reduce the output. I thought of putting gate valves on output pipes, will this damage the pump? Or is there a electrical methed that I could reduce the pump speed, such as a variable resister? |

Re: Too Much Pressure
Try a whole house pressure regulator from Watts
# U-5-B it will lower the pressure and extend the water from the tanks. ? What is the PSI are you running? What size are the tanks? What is the temp on these tanks? Bernie |

Re: Too Much Pressure
Thanks Bernie
Would I fit one of these to the output of the cold and hot from the pump. Not sure about the psi the pump is quoted at 2.15bar, which I think is about 31psi. The cold water tank is 120 litres and the hot water I think is 115 litres and the hot water temp is set at 60 degrees celcius. cheers sean. |

Re: Too Much Pressure
Guess I will have to get a conversion chart, but too answer your question yes you would install such a regulator on the water main before the hot water tank.

Re: Too Much Pressure
I think you have overlooked a bigger problem. You expect 3 showers with a 30 gallon tank (back to back i suppose)? Pressure isn't your problem, volume is. 30 P.S.I. for a domestic pump system is adequate (barely). If you drop the P.S.I., you will be able to pee harder than the shower. Want more showers, get a bigger water heater.
