Toilets Outta Th' Box?

Okay I'm ready to get slapped around a bit,
(probably get shot by a cat, and bitten
by some kinda green-LSD-nightmare-monster,
at least) but it's for a good cause.
85 yr old friend of Mom's had one of
her toilets taken out (destroyed) by
grandkids from hell. Her son will replace
with any mid price that he can get
with his Lowes or Menard card.
All should be grateful that he knows he
can't set it for her. I can set it for charity
(I can do a better job than the floor guys
that we all know do 'em every day)
but not supply it. Lately when it's my choice
I've mostly used Toto, so....
Any preferences in these brands
(mind you Box store grade):
Eljer
Mansfield
Briggs
Kohler
Crane
American Standard
Jameco (??)

Killer's input will be amusing,
but...

Unfortunately there is Toto and then there is everything else. Since Toto is not an option in this case, I suggest writing the names of all those others each on it's own piece of paper, drop 'em in the hat, shake 'em up a little, and pick one.

Say away from the toilet to go, you know the one I'm talking about.

Years ago, before the advent of the 1.6 gal W/C, you could flush a puppy down a Mansfield toilet, that is no longer the case.

Based on your choices I would probably go with an Eljer, or an American Standard, I am not a fan of Kohler. Jameco is a product made in Mexico, they are also sold under the brand Titan, for the most part they are junk with poorly finished trap bores.

Toto or Duravit would be my first choices though.

A pattern seems to be developing
out of the fog.....

When I built new houses, we used
Mansfield for years.
Then suddenly..!
(Glad to have "expert" agreement)

I'm partial to kohler, and for an 85 year old I'd get the Cimarron "comfort height" ADA model.

Yeah, I was gonna tell him the tallest one
of whatever.
That is the main problem, she has 2 baths
but this is the one I put the hand rail
and grab bar in for her.

I have used countless "Toilets to go" and they don't get any easier and even though its a cheapy, I even installed one in my old house and it handled the monsters my old lady flushed down it!

Re: Toilets Outta Th' Box?

Based on this brief and very
scientific survey...
I'll tell him to get the most expensive
he can pop for:
A) American Standard
or
B) Kohler (knowing it won't be one of
those idiot hat boxes)

And a lock to keep those two made
for mayhem sons out of there.

Thank you!
Gentlemen and scholars all

Killer, I didn't think you would come
up with anything under 2 G's!

I install temporary jobsite toilets occasionally.

When I remodeled the master bath in my house I did install a concealed tank wall mounted Duravit W/C though.

Re: Toilets Outta Th' Box?

I just want to know if these two grandkids are still living? How on earth do kids destroy a toilet and where was the supervision? That's one reason why child abuse should be legal.

As far as selecting brands go, I'd recommend that you go have a nice big dinner at a Mexican restaurant and go to Lowes and try them all out.

Did you get the two button flush Gerber rough-in?

Small button for #1s....Big button for #2s...

If you want to make some extra points with the customer, walk over to the next isle after loading your toilet selection, and buy them a heavy duty plunger as part of the package.

The Toto has always had a reputation for being a quality unit, all the way back to the beginning days of low flow, when nothing else would flush more than two sheets of toilet paper. They are still a great product, but most manufacturers have made huge strides in the function of their models, except for the bottom end stuff. We install lots of Kohler and American Standard as customer selected items, and don't hear many complaints about them.

It's made by Geberit, not Gerber, and yes, they are the only ones I know of that make that carrier.
