I just watched an episode of Mythbusters, they tested a myth of if a sealed water heater could explode, found out it goes up like a rocket, documented cases of it happening, blowing up through the roof of a house and restaurant. In case of the house went through several floors and traveled 150 ft into the air. Was neat to watch

This was well documented long before a TV show tackled it, an exploding water heater basically destroyed a three story school in Kansas back in the fifties, the after effects were filmed for posterity.

And Randy Hilton's video (the first one) was just a little 12 gallon electric. Imagine if that was a 30 or 40.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. A water heater is not a DIY project. Let the pros deal with it. You don't know what you don't know and what you don't know about a water heater can kill someone.
