Temperature Rating Of Pipe

Had something come up that made me curious. Had a recess can cause the circuit to trip, and when I removed it, I found that a small water leak had caused the termal protector to short. Directly above was the drain from a tub. There was 1 1/2" to 2" space between the can and the drain (PVC). The pipe felt bone-dry (dusty in fact) and it could very well be a caulking issue, not a plumbing issue. (The water amount had to have been very small, like 1/2 a teaspoon)

My question is this - Is there a temperature rating on plumbing PVC? Is there a distance that you would like to see from recess cans? Could the heat cause a leak? Personally, I would never have put this can where it was, but this was a service call.

Re: Temperature Rating Of Pipe

Standard pvc is rated to operate at up to 140, but if you didn't see any perforation or burns on the pipe it's very unlikely that was the cause, if it's not touching I doubt it's a problem.
You could be right about it being a caulking problem or the overflow leaks when the tub is full, drain might have a leak at the shoe or in the trip waste tee.
