Story Time

I met a guy (Fred) in a parking lot back in Feb. He asked me if I was interested in doing plumbing for a friend of his (Joe) I said sure what is it?
Oh just run drain and water lines under new modular homes. (Easy Money)
Well Joe does remodeling also. I'm doing one for him right now which changes weekly. Soon as it's ready for drywall the H/O changes the lay out of the master bath. More $$$ is going to be made. But back to my story. I'm swamped in work (so busy I worked 7:30am- 10:30pm 2 days in a roll on another remodel where the H/O isn't living in the house.) I try not to work on Saturdays or Sundays. Well Fred called me on Wed. and asked if I was busy I said yep! He wanted me to set a 4 piece tub for him. I said well I'm very busy but for you I will come and give you a hand. (since he help me find good flow of work) I meet him out on the job site on Sat. The concrete floor of the bath room sloops 1 1/4" with in a 5 ft span. He tells me to set the tub flesh to the floor. So I did But the walls wouldn't go on and snap in place. I told him it's not going to work, He told me to split the gap from the floor and the wall set and caulk it! ( I do not like doing 1/2 a$$ work) I do like he said went to the truck to get my tub of caulk. ( at this time he has left me there alone to run into town) The H/O come in the bath room and started to rip me a new one! I said mam I was doing as I was instructed by Fred. She said I told Fred I did not want any caulk on this tub! I f you can't do it right I will hire some one else to come out here to do it right. I told her that her floor sloops 1 1/14 with in a 5 ft span. Your going to have a gap some where eitehr in the walls or at the floor. She goes on about my water is so nasty here it turns every thing orange. So I mention to get an Iron filter sysem to her. She said put the ga at the bottom we'll hide it with trim. I said ok Mam. I pulled teh walls and tub back out and built a platform to level teh tub our with. SO I got the tub level abd the walls back on still a small gap on the valva side back corner. I faught it to get it to be less than a 1/4" gap. I go and get the lady and she said that's better! ( So I think I have a happy camper) Well today Fred called me and said there is a leak and he's going to take care of it! ( it was P-trap on the sink I didn't touch it) Sh ewas going off on Fred saying that she was going to have a real GC and plumber to do it right!
Ok you should all be tired of reading my b*tching sesion. I new I should of ollowed my gut on that on e and said no! From this Sat. day adventure It put me a day behind on my jobs I had going on. I had to work Sunday after Church to make up for my wasted Sat.
So remember to follow your gut felling is the moral of this story!

Re: Story Time

You just perfectly described why GC's can't hire plumbers on the books.
Sometimes you're just better off taking the risk and telling folks what they don't wanna hear...this guy needs to hear a few of those things.

That tub leaks, it's on you, he won't dole out the thousands for a damaged ceiling below if it happens, trust me.
Also, hopefully you put some mud under it.

Whether you realize it or not, by giving in to his terms, you've taken responsibility for the outcome.

Re: Story Time

With a 1 1-4 inch slope in 5', I'd be back another time to set that tub, one they had dealt with the floor. No way its gonna drain completely or hold water at the head of the tub for a good soak come bath time.

Sorry to hear about your shot Saturday, but sometimes its easier not to do the job than to try to help someone out that refuses to help themselves in the first place. Despite everything you hear to the contrary, "no" is still a perfectly acceptable response.
