Smelly House
This tip might help someone who can't find the source of a bad smell in a house.
A friend of mine had a bad, intermittant odor in the upstairs area of his house. It smelled a bit like sewer gas, or a rotting animal. He climbed all through the attic, checking ventpipes, and found no problems. He replaced the wax seals on the toilets, and searched for any dry traps. The smell kept occurring. One day, after remodeling a bedroom, he picked up a plastic bag that contained the old light fixture. The stink was in that light fixture! We figured out the smell would only happen when the lights had been on for a while, and heated up. It took over a year after moving into this house to find the stink source. From an HVAC guy, I hope this might help a Plumber out there sometime! Drew Last edited by dwells50; 02-19-2006 at 09:57 AM. |
