Septic Systems In Florida

We are looking at a home in the Tampa / Lakeland area. It sounds nice except in on a septic system. Are there any special challenges with septic systems in Florida compared to other parts of the country. We are in upstate NY. I know very little about septic systems and want to have some knowledge under my belt.

Thanks guys

Paul, make sure that the system is tested during the home inspection.

Your basic system here usually has very few problems due to the nature of our soil (sand). If you have the type with a lift pump, it will require maint. from time to time. Ask about flooding in the area, none of them work when the drainfield is flooded.

Thanks Teetor,
This is just one of many homes we will be checking out in a couple of weeks from now. I sure hope we can swing this move. We are really both sick of winters in the north.

Oh Yes!

Try the north center part of the state(around Ocala). Less problems there.

Re: Septic Systems In Florida

florida has a very high wet season water table so yes it can be challenging. alot of mound systems and lift stations
get your checkbook ready if you need one. we are the most restrictive state to get a state contractors lisc. so guess what? its expensive

I would call a septic contractor to inspect my system not a home inspector who throws a dye tab down the drain and runs 75 gallons of
water. Worthless test. get your tanl lid dug up and a flow teat done!!!!!!!!! and they will core the field to aggragate to ensure the field is not satturated and view biomat. yes its a couple hundred bucks but hey its your money want a dye tablet????????????????????
