Sanitary Line Help!

Here is the question i have. I am bidding a hud home for rehab. There is a exsisting sanitary line under the house that has to be replaced and tied to exsisting line at front of home. The sanitary line under home is located under ground(house has three foot crawl space) Can I hang sanitary line from rafters and tie to exsisting line at front of home(below grade), or do i need to excavate exsisting line and replace? I am removing house floor to replace some joist and expose where sanitary line runs. Please give me some input on this matter.

Well Mike, here's the input.

Rafters belong in an attic, not a crawl space. I don't know how the rafters got into the crawl space but you better get them back in the attic quick before the roof falls down.

As for the sewer line, maybe you can hang it, maybe you should bury it. Why not let a plumber look at the situation?

I bid the job at $6,500 for 30 lineal foot, and won the job, why a plumber? I will just dig the 3' 1/2 deep and tie to the exsiting line at front of the house, no big deal. The great thing is the contractor is removing the wood floor and replacing it.

Mike, You can hang the sewer line from the floor joist in the crawl space and tie in a the front of the house under ground before you exit the crawl space. Or at least that would meet code here in Kentucky.

Mike, I am sure you are a smart man. But if that drain line comes loose and sewage escapes under the house, the first thing they do is ask for your plumbing license. If your making that much money, sub it out to a plumber and pocket the rest. Let him take all the risk.

Re: Sanitary Line Help!

Mike.
was a licensed plumber in CT for over 35 years. Going on 45, now.
Lot's of car salesmen here.
Any handyman can be a house plumber these days. Do the job yourself. Any chance of freezing; bury it below frost. ¼" per foot on pitch is plenty And there is such a thing as too much. Try to leave accessible clean outs and don't over or under size the pipe. Brace the pipe well but allow for expansion.
