Question

Roman Bathtub

Curiosity might have killed the cat but it should prove interesting in this case. I am wondering if anyone has built a tiled Roman bathtub and if they have pictures of what they did. I have found this style of tub to be very classical and a possibility in a future project I am just not sure of how to build it with out peeing or bursting (which would be a result of a under engineered base).

I've seen it done with solid marble slabs. The GC built a form on slab, we ran our tub waste and overflow, which was modified for the thickness of the marble, in the form, which was then poured in concrete. After the forms were removed, we flashed it with chloraloy like a shower pan, making sure that there were no seams, and then the marble installers came in and set their marble in a mudset base. It was ugly as hell, but the customer was happy with it and it still doesn't leak.
