Rohl Sucks!!!!!

I just installed a leg tub with a Rohl wall mounted exposed valve. I advised the HO not to choose Rohl, due to past experience, but the cute sales girl talked her into it. I rough it in as specs called for. Today I go to install it and find that there is only a 1/4 inch tolerence for wall thickness. 1/4 inch??? That was not clear in the specs! WTF!!!! Who can do that? What if the tile is thicker or thinner than expected? Or any other number of things could change over the course of a project. In this case it was a window casement. I made it work with a little on the job creativity. The funny thing is that Rohl allows for some left/right play, but not front to back. You have to have the drop ear 90 at exactly the right depth, no custom threaded nipples here! Dead on, no play. Who comes up with this BS? Never again!! I will advise against Rohl from now on. Italian crap? I hope not.

I called Rohl to complain and the response was "yeah, we get a few complaints about that". My response was "your faucets suck!".

Excuse me for venting, but I did promise Rohl that I would slam them on the net with the truth about their valve. So bid high if you gotta install this crap, I will never do it again.

Here is a link to the valve http://www.rohlhome.com/pdf/A1401.pdf

I've installed a lot of them, never had a problem, and I have never had to go back and repair one two months later like I do with Danze, Water Works, and whatever name Kohler is selling it's utter crap valves under. All it takes is a little communication between whoever is hanging the finish wall product as to exactly how thick they are going to be and then roughing it correctly.

Re: Rohl Sucks!!!!!

Exact. That's funny, haha. I had a bath last year with Rohl product, a leak at the shower arm and at the exposed tub filler valve. Both factory leaks. Not to mention the finish flaws. How about the 2 screws, both at the bottom, that hold the cover plate/escutcheon to the shower valve, plate is tight at the bottom and a gap at the top, nice. Worth every penny> He11 no!

Or the way the pop-up rod binds on the mounting hardware under the spout.

There should be some room for adjustment for wall thickness.

Rohl is CCCRRRAAAPPPP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you install the valve plumb, you wouldn't have a gap on the trim, but I know, it is easier to blame the manufacturer.

That is a load o' crap right there. Both the valves were installed perfectly plumb, and both had the same problem. It is the way there trim plate is attached to the valve that screws it up. Two screws at the bottom suck the bottom in and not the top. Pretty poor design.

How about the volume controls, a sliding escutcheon? How about some threads to really attach it. Come on Killer you know it is poorly designed and there are much better valves out there for a LOT less $$$. Or maybe Rohl is all there is in Illinois.

Re: Rohl Sucks!!!!!

We do not/will not install them anymore. We had a bad cartridge on o new valve and the "customer service " line said they don't make a bad cartridge actually they told my customer the same thing... The HO had a "service plumber come in and fix it for them he changed out the cartridge and $1000 later they had their shower. (the service guy had to buy the whole valve)

Oh and the finish looked like crap discolored how can you make a product with no warranty on it Ferguson must get a hell of a kickback on it.

Newport brass makes the same finishes with 10yr to lifetime warranty.

I install what the designer specs, I have never had a problem with a Rohl valve, and I have installed dozens of them. If the valve inside the wall does not move, why is a sliding escutcheon an issue?

The Moen shower valves that were popular in the sixties also had two screws on the bottom for the trim, it was never a problem if the valve was installed square to the wall. Either the valve is out of plumb or the wall is.

Hey, there's a rock 'n roll bar on W. Rosecrans that usually has a few dozen patches hanging out. You know the place?

I was there in 1982 or so and the place freakin rocked.
