Re: Question About New Bathroom In Basement

Your asking a question that only the orgional installer could answer, most could answer the question by opening walls, investigating and exposing the pipe in question to a point where no guess work is taking place, this is something the internet can't do and is for a professional to figure out. You might try to locate the guy who did it or accept the smart ass guessess and figure it out yourself.

Come on - its 2009 and we are typing things on the internet. No one cares how cool or funny your smartass awnser is.

Obviously I need to find someone else to ask because everyone on here thinks that they know so much that they need to only share it with others who also know everthing.

The question seems simple to me. There is a 2" pvc with a cap on it right above the place when the rough plumbing for the bathroom was done. Do I tie this to the sink , which is tied to the toilet and tub under the tub, for venting purposes.

If this is such a stupid question just say that instead of being creative and trying to make people embarrassed.

Also since Im not an fing plumber I wanted to know if the fan can be hooked up to it. Since there is a tube shooting out through the roof with air going through it - why not hook the fan to it so it dosent have to be run 75 ft, to the outside wall. If that is not proper than just say so.
Call a licensed Plumber, obviously you have no clue what you are doing.

Are you even a licensed contractor?

No you can not hook the fart fan up to a vent pipe.

BTW I am a Licensed Building Contractor, HVAC Contractor and Plumbing Contractor.

It's just as hard to tell anything about
people who ask these questions.

Apparently you do.

Me too.

If this is such a stupid question just say that instead of being creative and trying to make people embarrassed.

It's a stupid question for someone
who is pretending to be a plumber.
Happy?

It's obvious that you aren't
a plumber, so....
hook whatever to whatever.
What could go wrong?

Always nice to help respectful folks.

It does not matter what that line goes to, unless it is for a drain to an upper floor fixture, and there is no ejector pit, if there is no fixture that will connect to it above at that point then treat it as a vent. Connect then up and send them out the roof.

For the remark about CS Go screw your self into a socket and flip the switch on, where ever else you was posting that ran you off to here go back and start apologizing there before coming back to here.

BTW, I would not be a part of a place that is using the words CS like you are andrewjacklegnorespectasshole.

Re: Question About New Bathroom In Basement

Step 1.

Have someone yell into the end of the pipe in the basement, while someone on the roof is listening. If you hear their voice loud and clear from a pipe on the roof then it most likely is a vent. If you hear nothing or it sounds like the voice is under water go to step 2.

Step 2.

Have someone flush all of the toilets, run the sinks and tubs above the basement level and see if water runs out of the pipe, if so it's not a vent and you should put the cap back on.

Re: Question About New Bathroom In Basement

Thank you Robert and Ron the plumber. Two awnsers so far out of 22 responses that constiture a helpful response. That is all that I wanted to know. If making fun of someones question is funny to you, then go ahead because I cant stop you. I just do not apprecieite it.

I am obviously not a plumber. If I was then I would not have asked the 2 questions that I did. I would have know the awnser because it seems simple enough. Im not trying to plumb a whole house and meet building codes. There are 3 stubbs on the floor and a vent in the ceiling to tie pc to.

I got three bids from plumbers. $1900, $1600, and $1850 for everything. Like I posted, this a project for a friend. It is a spare bathroom in the basement. We figured that I could do it as a favor for $1100. Everything else is simple - except for one question that I had. Do I need to attach the sink to this vent in the ceiling?

If I can save $800 and have everything hooked up and functiong perfectly, what is the problem with doing it myself. Mabye plumbers make a lot more money than I am thinking, but $800 - especially in these times - is important to some people.

There are 3 reasons to post things on this site - and all the other forums around there:
1. To ask questions/to hear responces to learn
2. To awnser questions to help others - making yourself feel better
3. To make fun of questions and the people who ask them - making yourself feel better.

If number 3 is what you are going for, fine. I get it. I was 15 once and went to high school. Sometimes making people feel stupid is what you need and mabye sometimes its funny. But if you dont expect people to get mad when they are belittled, then you are just as stupid as your ignorant replies.

Asking questions is how people like myself learn. My two questions could not be figured out from any book I have so I resorted regrettably to asking on this plumbing forum.

Thanks to the people who gave auctual awnsers.

can I add a 4th. To prevent an unlicensed plumber from doing harm to the person/home he is working on and possibly his neighbors.

If something goes wrong the best you can do is say I am sorry.

a plumber has insurance that covers his mishaps and usually the knowledge to prevent the errors and run the plumbing correctly.

Plumbing, electrical and HVAC are the 3 trades I strongly feel only licensed/knowledgeable professionals should do the work. Just an opinion

This isnt lowballing because I am not making money. Like I said I am doing it for a friend.

Mabye my posts would go over better with Chuck Norris jokes that I picked up 15 years ago.

No, but they might go over better
if you weren't a jerk.

I didn't comment until you used
language that has no place
in a public forum.
Maybe you should read the
terms of service to which you
agreed before you were given
the right to post here.

Not maybe, you should read them.

You all sound like a bunch of kids, what ever happened to spreading the knowledge that this site was built on. Time to get this thread shut down.

I used to be just like you all on here, everyone got pissed cause I would not help and would tell the next GC to call a plumber, and know every time I come in here to read it is like a pissing match.

Grow Up
