Question About New Bathroom In Basement
I am finishing a basement for a friend and the bathroom has stubbs coming out of the floor for the toilet, sink, and shower. I finished running the waste pipes and water lines and just noticed a 2" pvc pipe with a cap on it up in the ceiling. It just stops - there is some writing on it which appears to say F.D vent or F.P vent.
I cut the end of the pipe off to see if I could figure out what it is and can feel and hear air blowing through it somewhere. Is this meant to tie into the sink waste line for venting purposes? The only other thing I thought it might be was for hooking up the bathroom vent to. I went ahead and connected it to the pvc that is coming out of the floor for the sink. I hope this is correct. Does this sound right? The house is 4 years old. In addition - since this appears to be a vent going outside, can I hook up the bathroom vent to this as well or is that not the right thing to do? Thanks for your input. This is one of the first bathrooms I have plumbed - mostly I have just been limited to repair work in rentals and occasionally running new water lines. |

maybe a vent for an ejector pit. Is the house on well and septic? Gravity fed?

Re: Question About New Bathroom In Basement
Yea, I would go ahead and connect that pipe to the toilet, sink, and shower drain lines, and then connect the fan to it

Re: Question About New Bathroom In Basement
My guess is that it is a pit vent- has to be a 2inch through the roof with no interconnections(dedicated).

You can exhaust the central vac through it as well.

Re: Question About New Bathroom In Basement
Its hard to tell who is auctually trying to help on these things and who is being a cocksucker. Why is it so funny or amusing to some of you to post replies like these? To impress other forum users?
Come on - its 2009 and we are typing things on the internet. No one cares how cool or funny your smartass awnser is. Obviously I need to find someone else to ask because everyone on here thinks that they know so much that they need to only share it with others who also know everthing. The question seems simple to me. There is a 2" pvc with a cap on it right above the place when the rough plumbing for the bathroom was done. Do I tie this to the sink , which is tied to the toilet and tub under the tub, for venting purposes. If this is such a stupid question just say that instead of being creative and trying to make people embarrassed. Also since Im not an fing plumber I wanted to know if the fan can be hooked up to it. Since there is a tube shooting out through the roof with air going through it - why not hook the fan to it so it dosent have to be run 75 ft, to the outside wall. If that is not proper than just say so. |

Re: Question About New Bathroom In Basement
How do you convert the thinner central vac pipe over to normal 2" pvc?
I can't for the life of me understand why there are two wall thicknesses. It makes it a biatch for inventory purposes. |

We should at least have thought to text. Typing is so last millennium. Al Gore really did a half-azzed job with this internet thing.

Re: Question About New Bathroom In Basement
I would use a toilet paper tube as a converter between the two. Its a chicken or the egg situation though cause how do you get the toilet paper tube if you dont have the toilet hooked up so you can ***** and use up the toilet paper to get to the tube...

Re: Question About New Bathroom In Basement
No, just a degree, I could sit for the test if I wanted to, but for some stupid reason I decided to hang siding instead. A nice office jobs seems better and better every day though... Its funny though all those years of schooling and my business accounting method is a complete disaster

Re: Question About New Bathroom In Basement
The F.D. is referring to the floor drain, and you should hire a plumber! Sub contractors can make you look good, or bad!
