I talked to a "tankless escalation rep" who was very helpful (on hold for 45 minutes) but it turns out my plumber installed the wrong cables from the heaters to the MIC-180 and the dip switches are incorrect. He says this is why it is not seeing the demand.

I have new cables on order. So we will see. BTW - these are installed in Texas.

OK, so if you don't like Rheem tankless and there are better units out there for the money, what are they? All the plumbers around here like the Rinnai.

Well, hopefully that will get your client up and running...your plumber should have been the one doing all this...IMHO.

Better than Rheem? That's easy, any other manufacturer other than Bosch would be better than a Rheem. I mainly install Noritz, they are without contest the most advanced, most efficient and better made tankless units on the market. Cost difference is usually within a 100 bucks or so. Alot of plumbers all over the country like Rinnai. Simple reason, is because that is what the supply houses stock. And why do they stock them.....profit margin. They are cheeply made with China parts and old electronic designs. It cheap to make, therefor cheap to sell. However I do hold Rinnai higher up than Rheem. Bosch and Rheem are the worst for name brand units. There are a ton of off market tankless units out aswell. Those aren't even worth my time to discuss.

However this is not about me or my clients, I was just trying to give you some info to help you out with your problem that your plumber pawned off to you so you could inturn make your job correct and make your clients happy with your work. Your Welcome.

Not to be contrary but Noritz (which I've yet to install but will probably be my next tankless install) just sent me a dvd and among other things it had a section all about their brand new manufacturing plant located in China.

Quality control really has nothing to do with geography. If Chinese products from Chinese companies (Noritz is not a Chinese company) are of inferior quality, the way that post WWII Japanese products were of inferior quality, it is because those companies either don't know enough or don't care enough to produce quality. China is still emerging economically and I expect that quality issues will improve with time the way that the Japanese improved and now kick the world's butt for a wide range of products.

Not too sure what to make of your post.....I personally think most things made in China is junk. That may not be true at all, but it is just my personal opinion. With respect to Noritz, they produce 90% of their own parts....electronic ignitors - temp sensors...etc...etc...all made from scratch in house. Things like the fan blower, made by Panasonic....who happends to make the very best in fans. These are just some of the reasons I mainly sell Noritz. If you get really picky and anal, and seriously examine all aspects of the units that are in the market, you too will see Norits is just flat out made better. It actually costs me more money to sell Noritz, the margin isn't nearly as good as the other units in market, but I like the best so I will pay for it, and so will my clients. There are cheaper ways to go, I choose this route because for the amount of work it takes to properly install a tankless unit, why go cheap on the unit?

I didn'y know about the China plant....I have to assume there will be a cost savings to Noritz and hopefully they will continue to produce a top of the line product. Check your P.M. a little later.
