Plumbing Pains

I'm sure youall have had this happen over time but as I get older i'm getting pains. pains like feels theres broken bones in my hands at times and can't grip a fitting or turn a wrench. Same with heat building up in my knees at night when I'm not active. cortisone isn't hte aswer because that slowly ruins your joints. short of me taking myself to he back yard and ending it how do you all fight the aging process? I'm a strong believer in milk of magnesia, preparahton H and some palmer's oil for soothing comfort in a nap sack. god did i just write that?

Re: Plumbing Pains

At 46 I to have the pains, and it takes longer to get over them, Excedrin back and body pain meds do some good but not good enough, not sure how much longer I can deal with it myself.

Re: Plumbing Pains

Ibuprofen (ibuphrofen?) 4x a day with something to eat helps a bunch. This is, of course, under the supervision of a doctor.

Another thing that helps is regular exercise beyond work. Its amazing how you learn to deal with pain when you push your body for the sake of pushing it and not for work. Some of the pains are even rewarding, because I know they will be gone in a day or two and I'll have something to show for it. Others just make me cry like a broken hearted schoolgirl. I need a hug.

Re: Plumbing Pains

When I know I have a heavy day, the ibuprofen comes in my duffle bag to the job.
Shoulders ache from years of overhead work, upper & lower back and my knee's from time to time.

You can take up to 1200 mg of ibuprofen (6) per day as long as it isn't regular.

Re: Plumbing Pains

I have been in hell this past week and a half. All under house work, on my back. The pain was pretty much manageable, until last nights softball game. My dumbass second basemen was attempting to thorw a guy out at first (I am the first basemen) and he threw it away. By the time I got it, the guy was half way to third. I threw the ball as hard as I possibly could but he was sitll safe. Today my right arm is useless. I warmed it up too before the game.....sigh....

How I deal with the pain? I arrived at 11 and left at 4. Glad I don't have a boss to yell at me.
If you really want TMI.....read on....If I am really busy and am running out of time I forget about the pain. Sometimes if I have to pee, I hold it and I forget about the pain.

Remember, pain it temporary - glory lives forever!

Stay thirsty my friends....

Hell,
I'm 36 and have started to feel it. I think Advil is the best out there for pain relief.

Re: Plumbing Pains

I am 38, yes I have also started to feel it. I am a tylenol guy. Some light excercises help with the back pain. Mostly problems with my hands from a fall off the second story of a building when I was 19. I will say I notice myself lokking for my knee pad quite regularly as of late. As my 8 year old daughter put it so eloquently "Dad, when I get old like you will my hands hurt also"?

Re: Plumbing Pains

40 and feeling it for a couple of years now. It takes a little longer to get started in the Am but as long as I keep moving it seems fine. Ibuprofen works great most days. It seems to be worse at the end of the day after driving home. Sometimes it really hurts getting out of the truck.

The worst is the numbness I get in my hands at night. Sometimes it hurts enough to wake me up

I had that in my arm a while back, went to the docs and the did a few tests and told me I had carpal tunnel. Went to another doc who told my I was had hypothyroidism. Which one of the symptoms was carpal tunnel. Just another place you can check. You would need to see an endocrinologist and have your bloodwork looked at.

Call you Doctor. He will know.

3200 is the "Maximum Daily Dosage".

The answer is Tai Chi Chuan and/or Yoga. I do neither.

I was into yoga some years back, and it really does help, on several fronts. Wife, kids and Life got me away from it...

At 58, dancing on the top plate with 24' 2x12's just ain't the fun it used to be. Aleve is my friend. I bet it would help with plumbers' pains too.

The numbness is most likely from a circulatory issue or caused by an imflammation of a nerve (Myelin) sheath or an adjacent muscle that is pushing on the nerve cord.

Naproxin Sodium (Aleve) is the BEST OTC remedy for this.

It's a long shot, but it happened to me. Put me on Synthroid and the problem went away in a few days. It had been bothering me for 2 weeks and getting worse. After the pills, all better.

Sounds like HYPOthyroidism. Hashimotos Thyroidism. An autoimmune dysfunction.

Yes! I know. I was exemplifying the word for others. Most know of HYPERthyroidism and not the opposite, HYPO.

Just googled it and damn if I don't have at least 3 of the symptoms listed.

I'm gonna see what my Dr says.
