Pipe Sizing

I need a little help here. I have a triplex that needs to have the galvanized pipes replaced with copper. The pipe coming from the main is a 1" galvanized and I was thinking of going with a 1" copper. The branching off from their to each of the units. Becasue they are inline, I was thinking of going towards the 1st unit with a 1/2" pipe then continuing to the other units with a 3/4" pipe. When i get to the 2nd unit I would split them into two 1/2" pipes, one for the second unit and the other to continue to the third unit. Would this be the right way of doing it? Just in case you are wondering, I was basing my logic on the cross sectional area of the pipes.

Re: Pipe Sizing

What does your code book tell you, if you don't have one then go get one. If you don't understand then call a plumber in your area, do you even have a license to do plumbing?

Your so far off on this you need help from a local plumber, why don't you just call a plumber, whats with you?

Re: Pipe Sizing

If all you guys are going to just start bashing without taking numbers first I think it's really not fair. From now on there has to be either a lottery or some sort of system so that everyone gets a fair chance at the first bash.

Oh... since it's not my building I would run 3/8 copper tubing to everything. If it was mine I'd go with 1/2

I like your thinking NH. With such a large pipe size like 1/2". I would worry about it slowing down the flow. Might I suggest sticking with 3/8 or at least some sort of booster system to speed it up.

Upon further reflection, I see no reason why garden hose and clamps wouldn't get er done either.
