Pipe Dumps In Basement
I am starting a basement finish project. HO has washer and dryer on 2nd floor. The drain for the over flow pan (I guess you call it that), is on the wall and dumps on the basement floor. I am finishing the walls and can't leave the pipe there so my question...could I run the pipe to the drain by the furnace (2" drain with AC pipe going in )about 20' away or, to the sump pump about 50' away?

Re: Pipe Dumps In Basement
Most locals wont let you dump washer machine water on ground. I would try to find a waste line you could tap into

Re: Pipe Dumps In Basement
This is not washer water, just a safty over flow pan ,for a burst hose ,for example.

Re: Pipe Dumps In Basement
Drain it to where ever you see fit, but it has to go to a drain or to the outside.

I was more or less thinking of if it overflowed or the tub leaked

Re: Pipe Dumps In Basement
Thanks guys,,,I was hoping the drain in the furnace room was OK because it was so much closer ,but because of it's size,I wasn't sure it was allowed.

now isn't it? Bet that is less than a 2" hole? Unless it's just a drip the damn pan will over flow any way.

But on the 18th, it's worthless! The threshold is floor 20, below, don't bother, above, better do it.

Re: Pipe Dumps In Basement
anyhow....thats what they got. I just want to make sure that I run this pipe properly so there are no disasters caused by me..I am surprised that the pipe was not in a drain allready.

Re: Pipe Dumps In Basement
Do you really think if a hose supply was to burst open that the pan will catch all the water.
A pan will not contain all the spaying water, water will spay out in many directions and not just spray towards a pan.The best thing one can use is the no-burst ss washer hoses, and in the case for the washer it's self going bad on the pump, then a pan would help out there, but not for a hose burst. |

Re: Pipe Dumps In Basement
OK,,,forget the burst hose..bad example..I'll rephrase the question. If you installed a tray under a washer in a 2nd floor laundry that drains past the 1st floor and into the basement, with a 1" pipe, and had two choices to run this pipe to,one being sump pump about 50' away or the floor drain in the furnace room at about half that distance, which would you choose? Correction on floor drain size..it is 3".
