Pinhole Leak

My neighbor called in a panic last week stating he found a leaky pipe just beyond the water meter in his basement so I shot over to see what was going on.

Turns out, he had a small pinhole leak behind a ground clamp where a metal screw had been in contact with the copper pipe and he was scheduled for meter replacement the following day.

I told him no worries as I applied a temp fix of rubber and a band clamp to stop the leak and told him as soon as the meter was replaced, i'll stop over and pull out the bad section of pipe and install new.

Well, as with any plumbing job...easier said than done once we discovered the only upstream valve in the house that could shut us down had a bent valve stem and seat washer that was all but gone...and would not shut off the water.

Back to the garage I go to find my curb key and out in the frozen tundra we go to find the curb stop. Once located and three times later of carefully rotating the stop back and forth, we got it to fully shut off.

I thought this might be a good time to whip out the Jet Sweat tool, but it turns out we didn't need it nor could we have used it since the supply line (K type soft copper) took a flowing bend right below the slab which would have prevented the tool from being inserted anyway.

While at the supply house I snagged myself some new guts for my own tub overflow assembly while I was there...wife went to take a bath the other night and discovered the linkage was broken.
