Old Gas Connection
Can I flare an old copper gas line safely? Im a carpenter but I do alot of small sh*t plumbing and am capable of soldering and some other stuff. My sister called me to help her with a new dryer she had delivered--the delivery guys would not connect for her. I new it would be a crap shoot for the supply fittings and I was right. The new adapter was 3/8" going into 1/2" flex. The old was 3/4" black with 5/8" taper combo with shut-off. The problem is there is 1/2" soft copper supply before the shut-off. It was being held in place by a bent nails and has kinked pretty good at this point from torquing the fittings below. I am concerened about this. I see no shut-off before this point cause the ceiling is rocked, I guess I will have to kill the main and re-light all the appliances in the house. Is flareing the right call for this? With-out pulling apart her ceiling and piping in black?

Re: Old Gas Connection
Sorry, have never seen a gas copper line b4. I know it's out there, just never ran across it. My suggestion, is install a new line with CSST...much easier than iron pipe

Re: Old Gas Connection
It has been several years since I worked w/copper lines. At one time I carried my flaring tools on all suppression system installs. Flares X pipe thread are available. Then adapt to flex. Be careful, the flare x pipe from the automotive parts house in not the same thread/angle as the fitting on the flex gas hose. When you are done, test for leaks.

Re: Old Gas Connection
Thanks the goal was to cut the kink out, flare a new end and reuse the fittings. The kink is only about 8" up from the fitting so the flex line should be able pick up the slack. Im still bnot sure about tghis though.
