No Radiator Heat Upstairs
I'm a roofer, but I recently replaced the ruptured expansion tank of my hot-water boiler. (pre-charged 12psi). I have filled the system with water, but I am not getting heat on the third floor.
I filled the 6 heating zones independantly, but I could hear bubbles in the system when I started it up. Is it possible that all the air in the system ended in the third floor and is blocking the system? For some reason, their are no air vents in the radiators. The gauge on my indicates 13, but it has not moved for years, so I think it may be broken. What is the proper proceedure to fill the lines, and get the right amount of water in the system to make it the correct pressure? Input? |

flynner you should have called a pro man.......I know moneys tight but things can get more expensive troubleshooting. Its possible there is an airlock, but its also possible your not getting enough head at the pump and the expansion tank (you just bought) is under sized. Soon as you said three stories I suspected somethings not kosher. I doubt you'll get much help here the plumbing section here is rather critical.
Good Luck |

I agree with Tom, you should check the items he mentioned.

Re: No Radiator Heat Upstairs
If you can shut down as many of the lower rads as you can. this will increase the pressure and flow rate to any other rads you have open and can move air locks. You must have vents on the highest rads as there's no other way to get 100% of the air out. When system is clear of air go around and balance the system. If the pump is on the ground floor then back down the rads closest to the pumps and work you way around till all the rads further down the line are getting hot.

Re: No Radiator Heat Upstairs
If there are drains on each of the zones isolate each zone and open the drain and let the water flow until it comes out without bubbles. One at a time. let each zone flow for a few minutes and go to the next one. If the only zones giving you trouble is top floor just do those but make sure you can isolate completely all the other zones.
