Neat Shower -- How Is It Built?

This was the shower in my room at the new W Hotel in Scottsdale.
Shower base was translucent and glowed into the bedroom area.

Doors were frosted glass, no mystery there. But the base seems like it was poured in place, notice how it goes around the internal corner

Shower seemed soft like a resin product of some kind, but it had a slightly wavy surface and a slope on top

I just can't figure out how it was made. Got down on my hands and knees, but couldn't find a seam of any kind between the vetical and horizontal parts of the base.

Any idea how it was made, and what it was made of?

Thats funny! Every time we come out of a new house or a building we have never been in, then as soon as we get in the car my wife asks " I know you dying to tell me.... whats wrong with it?"

That looks cool & it appears to be an epoxy poured directly into a form. Doors fully assembled & held up temporarily till it set?

Re: Neat Shower -- How Is It Built?

Another old thread revival.... But interesting none the less. That has to be shop built with machine buffed finish I can't tell if the floor is integral with the surround base.

Edit...upon further inspection I see the sealant caulk between the 2. 2 piece shop made shower base. Glass or epoxy resin form poured.

Re: Neat Shower -- How Is It Built?

Here is the story-- it is Very expensive they say. Its a cast proprietary resin used in the shower base. It is two layers to achieve the white mother of pearl swirl design on the top. They where cast of site in California by Storyland Studios. A team of resin craftsman from Storyland spent 3 months on site modifying each one because the contractor of the hotel didnt keep the same exact measurement in each room or the walls where out of square, also all the drain assembles had to be reworked in the resin base because every room didn't have the drain pipe in the same location as it was suppose to.So every base had to be modified . Check out www.foamworks.com Than click on Nuvo Line .They plan to put pictures of the shower bases up soon and also of a cast resin tub they just built.

Re: Neat Shower -- How Is It Built?

I wonder what the scratch resistance on this product would be. Would make a great product for high end. I doubt it could be used on lower end markets though. Pricing would have to be outrageous.

Combine it with the new glow in the dark mosaic tile, and we have a winner.
