Moen Lifetime Blunder

So we can no longer exchange bad Moen cartridges for new ones at our supply houses, we used to be able to exchange them, but now we have to purchase them. How does one sell a product and warranty it for life, if we now have to purchase the cartridge we now have to charge the customer for them, the work around this is customer now has to call Moen directly and have it sent to there house, this is bad business on Moen's part, so not only do we have to charge the 1st trip out to tell them it's the cartridge and it's not free of charge, but if they opt to get a new one from Moen, and then call us back once they get it, the customer now has to pay for two service calls, Defeats the whole lifetime warranty.

Guess we could after each time we sell a new Moen Faucet, tell customer if there is ever a leak to call Moen 1st, then call us to replace the cartridge at that time. Most Customers won't even think about calling Moen 1st, how do we handle this?

Re: Moen Lifetime Blunder

My first thought would be to stop using moen to begin with. I did two bathroom remodels for the same client and let them pick they're fisxtures, the chose a nice delta for the hall bath tub/shower and a nice moen for the master bath shower. both installed about the same time frame, the delta is still going strong with no problems and I had to replace the moen cartridge three times. I will never use another moen, and if possible will sway customers away from them as well. IMHO

PricePfister is the same way. Lifetime warranty, but you gotta call for parts and have them shipped to the customer's house.

Do you have a Moen factory rep that stops by your shop?

When I still did service work, which was six years ago or so, we saved the bad cartridges and gave them to the rep to exchange, not through a supply house. He stopped by on a monthly basis.

No Rep, I think AM/STD still allows exchange of lifetime parts though the supply house.

One bad experience does not make to entire product trash.

I would get a contact number for the rep that calls on your supply house and call him/her to work this out. In the past Moen has gone out of their way to protect their relationship with the trade, I don't know if this is still the case, it's been years since I installed a Moen product. Be glad your not trying to find warranty stuff for a Jado or a Danze, we have a hard time getting parts period.

I can imagine it is because of the amount of product they sell through Home Despair. I called the rep that used to call on the shop I worked at last year because I needed a replacement sprayer for my father in laws faucet, and he gladly sent it to me no charge.

I'm Joe Homeowner.
My moen failed.
My plumber ordered it shipped to me, I'm thinking of that $100 labor change as I stare at it thinking "I can do this".

Re: Moen Lifetime Blunder

It sounds like it might be your supply house. I've had to replace 2 moen cartridges in new installations, one about a year ago and one about 6 weeks ago. I deal directly with moen -1800buymoen, they've never hassled me, never had me have to ship it to a customer, never asked for any proof of anything, just describe the problem and the unit, they always ship to me and it seems like it is there the next day. I hope they aren't changing this since it seems like it's the way it should be done. We install Moen about 80% of the time. I know all their stuff by heart and know what to expect.

Rep called me today, said it's a supply house choice, they tell suppliers they can't guarantee the amount they will exchange with them, they did understand what I was saying, they will be shipping some cartridges to me in the mail thou.

If you plumb as bad as you spell, I sure wouldn't want you to install any brand faucet in my house.
