Re: Major Plumbing Trouble

Is this on a water line or a waste line?

Re: Major Plumbing Trouble

OK, can you move the escutcheon back and see if there is copper or brass in the wall?

If the galvanized nipple was screwed into copper, it can be removed and the threads cleaned up with a bottom tap, or just a wire brush in some cases. You can thread in a new 3/8" or 1/2" brass nipple and stop and run a new supply to the water closet.

If its all galvanized, good luck. You're gonna have to find a spot that will allow threading. Service life for galvanized in potable water systems is 14 years. Might be time for a repipe.
