I am an entry level plumber. I am looking to work nights or weekends in exchange for a signature from a master plumber. I hold a state of michigan HVAC contractors license. I am looking to take the plumbing test in the future. Thank you!!!

How many years will it take you to get the hours? 8? 10?

Are you looking for a sponsor for your apprenticeship or are you looking for someone to prostitute their license so you can pull permits?

It will take 10000 hours under a journeyman or master plumber. Or one day if you wanted to do things in a currupt mannor. Michigan has 157 plumbers laid off just in the North. Unemployment or Marvin pays 2/3 of your weekly wage every two weeks. I am not looking to open doors in that direction.
I am looking to gain plumbing "experience". I am willing to WORK towards plumbing experience. I posses a State of Michigan HVACR contractors license. I just am trying to do the right thing and gain "experience" towards a license. The Union is outstanding and the testing is not that hard towards an apprenticeship but when you are up against 450 guys, and they only accept 14 people every fall, time runs short, we only get older, and the bills only get deeper.

So you are going broke and think plumbing will set you free?

Concentrate on what you are doing wrong in your field, broaden your hvac skills, broaden your financial skills.

Hmmm, 5k - 10k for residential hvac change outs vs. 1k - 2k water heater install. Why did you want to be a plumber?

I am looking to design install hybrid systems, install geothermal systems, and or complete plumbing work along with mechanical work.
Money is great but the potential to do more is better. I have gone far in the HVACR field, all the way to an engineering degree, but it is not far enough.
As far as the post about comparing the two in financial gain, what would be wrong with the 5-10k + 1-2k. Money should not be the only reason though to get into something. I have done industrial plumbing for about two years, spent many dayz in a sump pit trying to pull out and up a sewage ejector. The coolest job we had was when I snapped a 6 in chemglass pipe inside the local jail and hundreds of albino "spiders" came out. Not the greatest place to be, but just remember not to bite your finger nails and you will be OK.

Going broke

Not really going broke. If I would open a shop based soley on HVAC or Plumbing it would close by spring do to the saturated economy. But if you combined the services you could possibly be able to balance things until the two departments equaled out. HVACR is great but plumbing is too. The two combined are outstanding.
