Leaking Push Fittings
Hey Guys,
Here is my problem; I have (as posted before) a RO System. I relocated the pressure tank from the garage to under the sink (needed room for my workshop I relocated the tank, re ran the lines, changed out the bladder (including sanitizing it) and ended up with a couple of leaks. I recut the lines and still had leaks so I changed the push in fittings and everything is good, but NOW I have a leak at the probe on top which also uses a push in fitting, but this one is not replaceable. My question is: Could the tank pressure be too high causing the fittings to leak? Is there something I can use to stop it from leaking like Jacks Lube? What could cause numerous leaks where there were none before? I was charging the fitting leaks to me since I pulled the lines, cut them and put them back, but this fitting has never been touched. Re: Leaking Push Fittings
Most push fittings like that are not rated for over 60 psi.Mst are repairable though I would never guarantee a job like that.Insert a screwdriver into the backside of the collar that captures the tubing and pry out, carefully.Inside you will find an o-ring,replace it and snap collar back in.This works with quite a few brands of push fittings.Experiment on a spare if you have one.

Re: Leaking Push Fittings
And you want a nice square cut on your tubing and nothing with bends or kinks near the connection.

Re: Leaking Push Fittings
Thanks,
Its at 7psi so that should not be an issue. Yes, I used a knife to cut the tubing square. I will practice getting the O Ring out on the old fittings. The one thats leaking now is on the top of the unit where the Probe goes in. Probe was never even touched, but we all know how this stuff goes. As soon as you touch one thing...

Re: Leaking Push Fittings
Threaderman...You Da Man!
I picked up another 1/4 x 1/4 push fitting and swapped out both the O Ring and the collar. Worked like a charm! ![]() This started with me wanting to put some old cabinets from one bathroom into the garage so I can make a nice garage. Had to move that pressure tank out of the way. Then discovered the leaking bladder Then The Fitting ![]() Then I moved the cabinets to find moldy Sheetrock. Must have been a flood or leak before I bough the house above there. So now that I finally got the RO back up and running, I get to tear out the Sheetrock and redo all that. ![]() Damn Garage will never get done! |
