Jetted Tubs

What brands do you like/dislike? This will be a small tub for my house 60 x 32 max. I have not installed one of these for quite some time (since I stopped doing new construction). Anybody installing these regularly?

Maax is great. The new jetted tub technology is great. They are lightweight (one man job) and easy as pie to install.

Make sure you have mondo room for the access panel and anywhere else you may need to service.

...but NOT from Big Box....the badged units there are "exclusive"...aka, not the same quality as one would expect...and little to no documentation at the Jacuzzi website.

We install Kohler almost all the time.

For your situation try looking up a Kohler K1201 Proflex. It's 60 x30 so you can do a hybrid alcove/drop in. Which means it can be set in a 3 side application like the tub you are replacing but with a tiled face. Make your tub face front out of 2x4s and you'll end up with 32" with the tile. That unit also is available with custom pump locations which might be a real lifesaver.

Re: Jetted Tubs

I will be installing an Ultra Baine in a few weeks, I did a little research on them...they seem pretty nice. Client wants one cause of the little use it will get and is afraid of a jetted tub getting mold in the jet pipes.

Has anyone ever heard of that happening? It's the first time a customer has mentioned that to me.

Re: Jetted Tubs

The mold in the jetted tub is a new buzz topic all the rage. The new bubbler tubs salesman love to throw that one around. They have been making a special treatment for jetted tubs that you throw in the water, run the tub and drain it, been making it for years and years. The issue is that with many older jetted tubs once you drained it there was still water left in the low spots of the plumbing of the tub connected to the jets so it could get nasty. New designs drain completely and there are also versions that are completely different, where the jets themselves do the work instead of a pump. But the air bubblers are the future.

Thanks Mike.
This looks like just what I've been looking for.
Another 10# in a 5# sack deal.
Maxx and the others always had a pump or something in an inaccessible corner.
Maybe finally get to gut their last bathroom now!

It is a rather common occurrence, one of the reasons the market for them is shrinking. Running a couple gallons of chlorine through the harness will fix the problem.

Re: Jetted Tubs

Look into the newer air bubbler tubs as oppossed to a regular jetted tub, especially for a small unit; unless you like the feeling of someone holding a couple of garden hoses 4" from you and holding the trigger for ten minutes. We have installed a few of the Jason bubblers latety and they seen to be pretty nice units; the blower can even be remotely located up to 10 or 12 feet from the tub.

I don't see that too much in factory name brands, because the do a much better job of being sure that their plumbing always drains downward to the jets so the pipe doesn't hold water. But the local cultured marble manufacturers are not so diligent about their plumbing, and I have on a couple of occassions installed a wooden saddle under the flexible lines to give them positive drainage towards the jets.

A COUPLE GALLONS of chlorine??? Better have a gas mask on before you turn the jets on , anything over a half gallon of bleach will send you from the room with teary eyes and burning nose.

I have yet to see a whirlpool harness that is completely self draining, on any brand, the pump is below the jets.
