Island Vent

Do you use them? Do your inspectors give you hell for them? Around here the inspectors don't care. 20 minutes away and they will bust your chops over using them. I personally like them, although only use them when there is no other option.

Re: Island Vent

We do many islands, seems like it's the thing for custom homes.

Re: Island Vent

I only use them as needed , I agree with you . Would the inspector rather you use a studor vent in place of an island vent ?

Re: Island Vent

No. Our code allows air admittance valves only with written permission and it takes a plumbing engineer to draw up and sign off on the prints you have to submit to get permission to use one.

Our inspectors prefer to see a combination waste and vent system instead of a 'loop vent'.

We just run 3" and vent at the first wall downstream. If there is a fixture upstream and vented in the wall, so much the better.

Re: Island Vent

I think the best option for a island is to put the trap under the floor and properly vent it. Yes you do break the maximum vertical leg rule of 2' 11" but not by a whole lot.

Re: Island Vent

Studer vents are against code here, you have to loop vent.

That is very common in Santa Barbara. I personally think it looks too conjested. I like very clean and tidy undersinks. Most Island vents are generally accepted, however it sorta depends on the job and the inspector. Most don't really give a hoot.
