Poly or copper? Copper, you don't need it.

it's a crap shoot with those things, sometimes they go forever and never have an issue and other times . by the way, never--ever use any mechanical connector in unaccessable areas.

I would never bury a compression fitting.

Hate to be yet another bad guy here, but "The road to hell is paved with good intentions."

You apparently did him a favor, but he may not appreciate the favor if he gets severe water damage.
Even if it doesn't leak obviously, it could be slow.
Farmer, also...look around for the link to the DIY forum associated with this site, this isn't the place.
You'll more likely get criticism here for doing the work, sorry but I don't think any of us want to offer free advice as we often never get call backs from homeowners that have us drive out and do estimates, then decide to, go with cheap unlicensed help or DIY and skim on stock to save money.

Think of it like this, if your a farmer, I decide to go into competition with you by starting a farm next to you, then I ask you for advice on how to operate the farm.
I then mistakingly underbid your clients, they go with me for the cheaper price while you loose your shirt.
I then go out of business because I couldn't pay my overhead this year, so do you for the same reason because I'd taken most of your business.

The old favor factor.....Any time you do a favor for someone something is going to go terribly wrong.
