How Water Temperature Control Valve
I had my oil furnace cleaned and tuned up a few days ago. While he was here, I decided to turn the temp down on the control valve to try and save a few pennies in costs. Since then, the water temp is hot only for a few moments but then gets just warm. I have tried futzing with it half a dozen times and get the same results. Do these things go bad or is there a chance a deposit has lodged in the mechanism?
What is a good brand to possibly replace this with? Thanks, Rob

Re: How Water Temperature Control Valve
Those thermostatic mixing valves can go bad all on their own. Fussing with one that has been set at one place for a long time can make a marginal one take a nosedive. They sell rebuild kits for the common ones, that consist of just a few parts. It's about a 10 minute job to rebuild one. Most are TACO brand (pronounced TAY-CO). Just get the manufacturer and model number off the tag or the casting of the valve and zip over to a real plumbing supply house and pick up a kit.
