How Much Should I Charge?

How much should I charge a customer to replace a lead line with copper, I will be using illegals to do the work so keep that in mind, I will be using copper we pulled out of a slab we demoed last year.

Also how do you soldier copper? Please walk me through the process and can you tell me where to get flux the cheapest and is it really necessary? I heard you can use butter instead.

Re: How Much Should I Charge?

Well Mike, I suggest that you look for the younger Mexicans. They will work for the least amount of money and still get the job done. The copper that you pulled from your demo will in all likelihood not be the right shape for the job you require, so you can get the illegals to pound it into the new shapes and it will still be cheaper than buying used parts. You don't even need to solder the copper, a few rolls of duct tape will be quicker and cheaper than solder any day. Plus you won't have to worry about the illegals burning down the place with the use of a torch, which of course, the propane to run it costs money. Since you are not going to use solder you don't even have to worry about the flux. So I would figure about 45¢ per foot and when you get rid of the lead just toss it into the HO trash, not like it is toxic or anything.
